Computing giant HP has announced the release of its new StoreOnce software, aimed at reducing storage demands for converged storage infrastructure.

The software aims to reduce the complexity of handling stored files by removing the need for multiple tools to handle deduplication.

According to HP, data is often duplicated and deduplication during its life cycle and removing the deduplication – and reducing demands on storage – can be a complex job that can affect storage performance.

StoreOnce is the latest release from HP Labs, the company’s research arm. It enables clients to have a one-stop software solution that can be used on backup clients, virtual appliances, inline appliances and scale-out storage systems, covering the full gamut of storage options. It aims to maximise deduplication performance while reducing hardware requirements.

The software is included on HP’s new StorageWorks D2D backup systems.
