Consumer electronics vendor KaiserBaas has brought the idea of the black box flight recorder to cars with its own device called the RoadRecorder.

Incorporate audio, video camera and GPS, it can capture your travels and record any road incidents that might occur, whether you’re involved or not. By running continuous recordings, it’s able to capture 10 seconds before and 20seconds after the incident. It detects this through the built-in 3D G-sensor. The camera can capture video in light down to 0.8-lux.

It can capture up to 52 events although recording runtime depends on the capture frame rate.

The device features a video camera that captures at up to 720×480-pixels in PAL or NTSC mode using H.264 video compression to store video into the internal 2GB of storage. There’s no need to worry about storage as the device overwrites old files over time. To download files, the RoadRecorder has a built-in USB host port – all you need to do us plug in a USB flash drive and download videos and data straight to the drive.

The device also captures GPS information using Google Maps.

It’s available now for $AUD249. Check out the video below for more details.
