Software giant Microsoft is calling “time, gentlemen, please” on its Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2000 operating systems.

The company will end support for both OSs on July 13.

Thankfully, it doesn’t means Windows XP itself is dead. Microsoft is committed to continuing support for Windows XP via Service Pack 3 (SP3) until April 2014. Even if you’re still using an original version of Windows XP, you can update quickly to SP3 by just heading to the Microsoft website and downloading/installing the latest Service Pack.

Those using Windows Server 2000 however have almost come to the end of the road. Microsoft will no longer offer public support although self-help support will be available for a further 12 months via the Microsoft website.
