Korean giant Samsung has announced the release of its new Series 8 range of TVs, incorporating 3D technology.

The range includes Samsung’s largest 3DTV, a new 65-inch LED-edge lit LCD panel.

The new range also includes 46-inch and 55-inch models that feature PVR functionality, Skype capability (with optional camera) and Internet@TV.

One of the new features is Pinpoint Dimming. Samsung claims that this allows edge-LED-lit TVs to produce local dimming capabilities found in standard backligt LCD televisions. It uses an array of LEDs to create diamond-shape areas which can vary in size depending on the object on screen that needs to be lit. The whole thing is controlled by software to allow the brightness to be controlled, boosting overall perceived contrast.

All models will be available this month.

The 46-inch UA46C8000 will sell for $4299, the 55-inch UA55C8000 for $5499 and the 65-inch UA65C8000 for $7499.
