Samsung India has launched what it claims to be the world’s first solar-powered mobile phone in the Guru E1107. Also known as the Solar Guru, the new phone features basic handset keypad on one side and solar cell array on the other.

The phone is claimed to be able to deliver five to ten minutes talk time with an hours’ charging via the sun.

The phone includes MP3 ringtone support and FM receiver and is expected to sell on the Indian market for Rs2,799.

“The Solar Guru has been developed keeping in mind the needs of Indian consumers, especially customers residing in areas where the electric supply is unstable, so that the consumers can rely on solar charging to remain connected.” states Mr. J S Shin, President & CEO, Samsung South West Asia Headquarters. The Solar Guru represents the Company’s efforts to strengthen its leadership in the solar panel mobile market.

The phone also comes equiped with what is called “mobile prayer”, a feature including relgious wallpapers and prayers.

The phone is expect to be released in other markets worldwide by the end of June 2010.
