Japanese electronics giant Sony has announced the release of its latest budget digital SLR camera.

The new Alpha-390 features a 14.2-megapixel CCD image sensor inside a new compact, lightweight body the company is aiming towards first-time DSLR buyers.

The camera comes with a 2.7-inch variable-angle LCD panel on the back.

Sony has implemented its SteadyShot technology (switched on by default) and the camera comes with a mini HDMI port to display images on a big-screen TV.

The Alpha-390 supports both SD/SDHC and MemoryStick Pro Duo flash memory cards.

The camera is expected to become available in early July and sold as two bundles – a single-lens kit for $799 and a dual-lens kit for $999.

No further details are available.
