Everynow and then, Techlogg.com takes a look at how prices of popular gadgets around the world stack up, to see who’s getting the best bargains.
This time, we’re turning our attention to the new Apple iPad. We’ve looked at the prices of the entry-level 16GB WiFi-only version in ten countries around the world, compared them to the US rates by converting the local dollar price to the US dollar to get a comparison.
So here’s what we found:

You guessed it, the US is the cheapest and only place you’ll find this iPad for under $500.
Second on the ladder is Canada at $525 US equivalent price. Following Canada in third place is Australia at just under $558. Surprisingly, Australia comes in ahead of Japan, whose US price is just over $US560. And rounding out the top five is Switzerland on $623.04.
Sixth spot is World Cup champions Spain (well you can’t win everything!) on $633 followed by Germany, Italy and France all on $647.40.
And bringing up the tail is the UK. With its local price of £429, it equates to a price of over $US660, or just over $100 more expensive than it is in Australia and Japan.
