Storage specialist Verbatim today announced it has released two new USB3.0 external hard drives.

The new models features 3.5-inch 1TB and 2TB drive capacities and are USB3.0 ready.

While it does mean that your PC or notebook has to have a USB3.0 (blue) port available to get maximum speed, desktop PC owners will have the opportunity to pick up a USB3.0 PCI expansion card that will turn your USB2.0 desktop into a USB3.0 one.

Verbatim is selling the 1TB model for $114 and the 2TB drive for $209.

What is strange about this launch is that Verbatim makes a point of mentioning the fact that the drive “can” come as a bundle with the USB3.0 PCI card in its press release. However, when we contacted the company a short while ago, a spokesperson said they had initially order the drives into Australia WITHOUT the PCI card. Why a company would talk about a bundle that they haven’t ordered into the country is a bit too complicated for us to understand.

We’ve been told we’ll be notified of the price of the drive bundle shortly.
