If you’re looking on at the new LG Optmius 2X as a must-get smartphone and you’re wanting to buy it in Australia, you may have to wait a bit.

Despite LG Australia’s PR firm releasing a press release announcing the arrival of the phone, a quick call to LG’s PR about a release date found that it couldn’t tell us whether the phone was actually coming to Australia, let alone a release date.

We’ll assume it’s just a “time of year” thing and that the phone will probably arrive sometime early 2011.

The fact that LG has even released a press statement in Australia would suggest the phone is coming – just it seems no-one can tell us exactly when.

The Optimus 2x is being flagged as the world’s first dual-core smartphone, powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. The phone is expected to come with Android 2.2 (Froyo) but will be upgradable to new Gingerbread (Android 2.3) although LG has admitted that it does not have a specific update date available other than “in due course”.
