Local retailer OfficeWorks has dropped the price of Acer’s eMachines EM350 netbook to a bargain $199.

The 10-inch netbook features Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom N450 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and Windows 7 Starter operating system.

The EM350 isn’t the first Windows netbook to be sold at this price with Harvey Norman flogging an older 8.9-inch Asus model for the same price last year. However, it is the first time a 10-inch netbook has been sold at this price.

From the OfficeWorks website, it doesn’t appear this is a special limited price, which makes the EM350 the cheapest Windows netbook currently available in Australia.

While the EM350 comes with 802.11b/g Wi-Fi wireless networking, it’s not clear what the battery capacity is, although we’d reckon it’ll be a three-cell/2200mAh Lithium-ion type, good for up to three hours’ run time at best.
