PC giant Acer has today announced a whole new generation of notebooks based on the recently-released second-generation Intel Core i-series processors, announced last week.
While the Aspire 5950G and 8950G models are aimed at the performance/enthusiast end of the market, there’ll be plenty around for those with more modest budgets.
Acer will tackle the budget market with its new Aspire 5750G.
It will feature a 15.6-inch widescreen LED-backlit LCD panel with 1366×768-pixel resolution driven by two graphics controllers – Intel’s integrated HD graphics and Nvidia’s GeForce GT 540M graphics chip. The 5750G will also dynamically switch between the two as required by the applications being run at the time. This is part of Nvidia’s new Optimus technology, which aims to boost battery life and performance when needed.
Chris Osborne, Acer’s Senior Product Manager says “Optimus switchable graphics offers the end user real benefits that they can measure. They get Nvidia’s latest 3D graphics capabilities for smooth DVD playback and game play when plugged in, and prolonged battery life when mobile thanks to Intel’s latest embedded HD graphics controller. What’s more, the switching is completely seamless with no interruption to the user and eliminates the need to re-boot.”
Acer will offer up to 640GB hard drive space but at this stage, there is no firm information on whether the model will include a standard DVD drive or a Blu-ray/DVD combo unit.
Other features will include 802.11b/g/n wireless and HDMI output.
While the company hasn’t said yet which processor will fill the engine bay, the new 5750G will be available late-February with a starting price of $999.
