Pioneer Australia this morning announced that despite a hook-up between Pioneer and Sharp to sell Elite-branded Sharp TVs in the US and Canadian markets, none of these TVs will be (officially) coming to Australia.
In a press release, Pioneer Australia general manager, Chris Kotis reiterated the company’s the decision to abandon the Australian TV market.
“Following the decision to cease manufacturing of our KURO plasma TVs in 2009, we have already taken critical steps towards carving out a new, prosperous chapter in Pioneer’s 45 year Australian history. Audio is the company’s forte and we have no plans to re-enter the flat panel market in Australia.” Kotis said.
Both Sharp and Pioneer will be marketing new “Elite” branded TVs in the US and Canadian markets. The LCD TVs are manufactured by Sharp but will be available through Pioneer’s “Elite” dealer network in North America.
