This new Aspire One Happy from Acer does reasonably in terms of price, overall value and battery life.
Its six-cell battery delivered bang-on four hours’ runtime, which is actually below-par compared with other models including Dell’s Inspiron Mini 10 but its 1.137kg weight was the lightest of its class.
It features the new dual-core Atom N550 but with its lower 1.5GHz clock speed, there’s barely any noticeable speed improvement in our benchmark results. Is the dual-core Atom chip pointless? Yep, we think so.
The 250GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM and Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system cover the usual netbook features, matching the Dell Inspiron Mini 10.
Given the prices being asked for a few netbooks, this is probably worth a look if you’re after a netbook but we’d also recommend you look at some of the bargain 15.6-inch notebooks selling for under $600 including Acer’s own Aspire 5741G.
The Verdict: Passable value given some we’ve seen but don’t get excited by the dual-core Atom chip.
