Data projectors seem to becoming more compact with each passing month given what we’ve seen  recently but this new EB-1775W from Epson packs plenty into its small chassis.

About the size of a 12-inch notebook, the EB-1775W is the top of the new EB-1700-series but for its $1999 price tag, you get plenty of features. It’s a bright 3000 ANSI Lumens at full crank with 1280×800-pixel native resolution. The built-in HDMI port makes home entertainment and notebooks equally useful with its ability to downscale 1080p (1920×1080-pixel) resolution video input. Another neat feature is automatic vertical keystone correction and it’s one of the shortest throw projectors we’ve come across (that means you don’t need much depth to create a big screen image.)

However, arguably the most impressive feature of the new range is the replacement lamps. Epson rates them for up to 4000/5000 hours in high/eco mode but they cost just $119 each. The EB-1775W is a 3xLCD unit with good colour accuracy and saturation but it’s tempered a little by lowish contrast levels. The one drawback as far as home entertainment goes is the relatively noisy fan. Before you consider this however, we’d recommend having a look at the cheaper EB-1760W, similar to the EB-1775W minus Wi-Fi but keeps the resolution, most of the brightness and is priced at $1399.

The Verdict: Replacement lamps just $119 but check out the lower-cost EB-1760W first.
