Reports are coming through that Twitter is in advanced talks to buy third-party Twitter client TweetDeck for $US50million, according to the Wall St Journal, citing sources close to the matter.

TweetDeck is one of the most popular third-party client apps that hooks into the popular tell-us-all-in-140-characters micro-blogging site.

Twitter and TweetDeck already enjoy a close relationship, reportedly sharing revenue from promoted tweets that not only appear on Twitter’s own web client but also on the TweetDeck client.

Just how Twitter plans to use TweetDeck is unclear and is an interesting move, particularly given recent reports that less than 0.1% of Twitter users generate half its content

TweetDeck is one of the most advanced Twitter clients, running cross platform on the PC using Adobe Air technology but also available on the iPhone and Android tablets and smartphones.
