ipadminiWhile tablet sales in general are booming, a report from digitimes.com suggests sales for Apple’s smaller iPad aren’t doing too well.

The Taiwanese online news site is claiming sources in the iPad Mini supply chain that expect to see a 20-30% decline in shipments for the device due to a lack of demand.

Apple’s iPad displays are said to come from LG Display, which is reportedly downgrading its shipments for April to 3.5million from March’s five million units.

The drop in sales is reportedly the result of consumers waiting to see what the next iPad Mini will bring. However, rumours are already growing that the iPad Mini 2 will feature a Retina-grade display, offering 2048×1536-pixel resolution in the same 7.9-inch screen size, making it even sharper than the current 9.7-inch models.

Apple CO Tim Cook has said previously not to read too much into supply-chain reports due to the number of suppliers in use.
