surfaceproSoftware giant Microsoft has finally announced the release of its Surface Pro tablet into new markets.

The company announced on its blog overnight that it would launch its own-branded Windows 8 tablet in a range of markets including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom and Australia before the end of May.

No pricing or exact launch details have been confirmed.

The company also announced that its smaller Windows RT-powered Surface model will launch into Malaysia on April 25, Mexico by the end of May and Korea and Thailand by the end of June.

Microsoft is attempting to break into the tablet market currently dominated by Apple and will face tough opposition from the iPad, not to mention the myriad of Google Android-based tablets from vendors around the globe.

Microsoft launched Windows 8 in October 2012 to a lukewarm reception with many users baulking at the new operating system due to its lack of traditional Start button and menu.
