twitterThe rumour mill has begun to hit overdrive that the popular micro-blog website is in talks with a couple of major media players to expand its video content.

TechCrunch is reporting the rumours that Twitter is in discussions with Viacom and NBNUniversal over a deal to provide video clips and advertising content.

Twitter is already said to have deals in place with  ESPN and Turner Entertainment.

Although no official statement has been released, rumours are that a deal could be worked out as early as mid-May.

The news comes on the back of Twitter’s launch last week of a new music service app after it purchased We Are Hunted. It also comes amid views that the company, which launched its microblogging site in 2006, is planning on an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of shares later this year, could be in the black later this year.
