Smartphones are well-known for their ARM processors that make everything possible, but what about audio, the components that make your earphones sing?

Most audio chip brands are much less well known than the CPUs that drive smartphones but Wolfson Microelectronics, a chip design company in Scotland, should have less of an identity issue after today announcing the inking of a major deal with phone giant Samsung to remain the Korean brand’s primary go-to source for all things phone and tablet audio.

The deal includes a multi-year intellectual property license for an undisclosed sum and should include seeing its tech in the up-coming Galaxy S4 smartphone.

EE Times reports Wolfson is already the name behind the audio in Samsung’s popular Galaxy S3, Note II smartphones and Tab 10.1 tablet.
