Developers use Safari 3 to trial iPhone applications from greenhouse gas calculators to Xbox 360 dashboards.

The iPhone hasn’t even arrived on the market yet but that hasn’t stopped a growing number of developers (including ourselves) from releasing beta versions of their first iPhone applets.

Although Apple has received criticism for not releasing a software development kit (SDK) for the iPhone because of security fears, the release of Safari 3 beta is enabling developers to work on web-based AJAX (asynchronus Javascript and XML) applications for the device. And so far, there have been some very interesting applets developed with more coming each day.

WordBreaker is a free, online word game where you attempt to guess the computer’s secret word before the computer guesses yours, using logic and deduction.

LivePhone is an early alpha of an iPhone-Xbox Live integration app. This first release allows you too look up gamercards using the searchbox at the bottom.

Bravetrail is a new mini-blogging service to help you stay in touch with your friends. Using Bravetail, you can let them know your location, what you're up to and when. You can also share maps, photos and your favourite locations. There is a comprehensive API available and there are versions for the desktop, mobile and iPhone.

iPling was built specifically for the iPhone long before the others knew Apple would be announcing Safari as its primary third party development platform.
