Developers use Safari 3 to trial iPhone applications from greenhouse gas calculators to Xbox 360 dashboards. The iPhone hasn’t even arrived on the market yet but that hasn’t stopped a growing number of developers (including ourselves) from releasing beta versions of their first iPhone applets. Although Apple has received criticism for not releasing a software development kit (SDK) for the iPhone because of security fears, the release of Safari 3 beta is enabling developers to work on web-based AJAX (asynchronus Javascript and XML) applications for the device. And so far, there have been some very interesting applets developed with more coming each day. WordBreaker is a free, online word game where you attempt to guess the computer’s secret word before the computer guesses yours, using logic and deduction. LivePhone is an early alpha of an iPhone-Xbox Live integration app. This first release allows you too look up gamercards using the searchbox at the bottom. Bravetrail is a new mini-blogging service to help you stay in touch with your friends. Using Bravetail, you can let them know your location, what you're up to and when. You can also share maps, photos and your favourite locations. There is a comprehensive API available and there are versions for the desktop, mobile and iPhone. San Leandro Times is a local news provider in San Leandro, California. News is updated on a weekly basis, matching the paper's distribution. Castro Valley Forum is another local paper serving Castro Valley in the US iPling was built specifically for the iPhone long before the others knew Apple would be announcing Safari as its primary third party development platform. Just enter your zip code, click “Go”, and Boom! MyMetar provides personalized aviation weather to pilots. Pilots require access to special weather observations and images such as turbulence and significant weather prognostics. MyMetar users have efficient access to the weather observations and aviation weather images they need through the web, desktop widgets, blog widgets, browser enabled phones, and now the iPhone. MyMetar’s iPhone interface is designed specifically for the iPhone and provides aunique online experience for pilots carrying an iPhone. iActu is a news website reader interface. Actu pulls news feeds from six American Newspapers. You can read the news of the day, view the today front page, purchase a subscription, and more… All this features in your iPhone! iActu is also available in Dashboard version, buying the widget iActu Pro is said to encourage the developers. FastApp is an iPhone Dashboard that displays the latest additions to iPhoneApplicationList.com iTees is an iPhone-based T-shirt Search engine. Search 1000’s of T-Shirts on you iPhone. Gcalc is a tiny AJAX applet that calculates the running costs of tech gear based on power consumption, running time and domestic electricity costs. Gives result in cost per year as well as greenhouse gas production attributable to that device. OneTrip was one of the first application to be released for the iphone and helped spark a revolution.
