New SyncMaster 940UX 19-inch monitor features VGA, DVI and USB video connections.

Samsung’s Canadian subsidiary has launched one of the world’s first LCD monitors that can connect video via universal serial bus (USB).

The SyncMaster 940UX is a 19-inch standard aspect-ratio LCD monitor featuring triple inputs – VGA, DVI and USB – and 1280x1024-pixel native resolution.

The monitor delivers a fast response time of five-milliseconds (5ms) and a dynamic contrast ratio of 2000:1. Viewing angle are said to be 160-degrees vertical and horizontal.

However, the key feature is the UbiSync Technology USB graphical interface. It’s designed to enable creating multi-screen computer systems without the need for expensive multi-port graphics cards.

With the SyncMaster 940UX’s ability to switch from standard landscape to portrait mode, added with UbiSync, it sounds like it is ideally suited for financial analysis applications.

The screen itself features a height adjustable stand with a tilt and swivel base.

The new UbiSync technology was first shown off by Samsung at this year’s CeBIT conference and is capable of supporting up to six extra displays via USB cabling.

Online reports suggest the USB connection is not fast enough to support 3D gaming of any serious speed however it is ideal for more stationary applications such as office applications, email and internet browsing.

So far, Samsung has released the 940UX in Canada and the UK although there is no word however the unit forms parts of Samsung UK’s digital signage group of business monitors.
